Good old Jennifer 'J-Lo' Lopez. Not content with looking 10 years younger than her age and bouncing around in her pop videos with the energy of an excitable wallabie, our Jen has announced that, since the separation from her husband, Spanish singing sensation, Marc Anthony, she will be extra careful when introducing her three-year-old twins to any new men in her life.
Thrice married, J-Lo found herself this week in the hot seat as reporters dug for the truth behind the rumours linking her to Hollywood hearthrob Bradley Cooper. In response the 42-year-old said: 'As a mom, and having children, right now they're my first priority. And because of them, I wouldn't ever comment on anything until I'm in a serious relationship again. It would just be confusing for them and it would be unfair. And so at the end of the day, it's about them.'
How wonderfully refreshing to hear it. As a single mother, myself, I despair at the amount of celebrity mothers who leap, gazelle-like, from one relationship to another with barely a pause to consider how their actions may impact their children. And they do it in the full glare of the spotlight. Some of them even do it for shekels. Twice-divorced mother, Kate Winslet, recently announced, in a typically Hollywood flourish, that she will not allow her children to be 'f***** up' by her separations.
I believe her when she says that - Miss Winslet is not a successful actress for nothing - but her actions, sadly, seem to betray her. She has recently been photographed with her new boyfriend Ned Rocknroll in many public displays of affection. It is rumored she met him while still seeing her model ex model boyfriend Louis Dowler. The reality is that if she aims to make her two children feel secure then she's not going the right way about it. I appreciate that's a stinger because, in truth, most separating parents only want the best for their children - and I don't doubt that Kate Winslet wants that, too.
But we have come a long way in our understanding of psychology when it comes to divorce and separation, and we have a wealth of information about how the behaviour of the parents is likely to impact any children involved. Miss Winslet is someone who enjoys being in love, she's talked about it many times over the years, about how important that is to her. And she's not been so lucky in love.
Since leaving hubby, film director Sam Mendes, the fragrant Miss Winslet has enjoyed several relationships in which she apparently has no compunction in making them public affairs as she wanders through airports and is papped coming out of nightclubs, looking doe-eyed and smitten with her current beau.
It's a bit of a pattern with her athough Kate likes to try and convince us that this is The One. Of course, she's no match for Serial Dating Mother Numero Uno, Miss Katie Price, aka Jordan, who is seldom seen without a man despite having three children under the age of 10. KP and her reality TV cohort, Kerry Katona - and her four children - have followed similar paths when it comes to introducing new men to their off-spring - and then turning them all into a reality package for sale to the highest bidder.
Well, it keeps the wolf from the door, doesn't it? But how confusing must all these different relationships be for these little mites? We'll probably know that answer when they're reliving it on a psychiatrist's couch in 20 years time.
